Sharing is caring!

The curls that you have on your head are your crowning glory. Every time you style your hair your curls form a beautiful pattern of twists and turns.

It makes sense that when you go to sleep at night you want your curls to be maintained as much as possible.

Let’s face it, waking up in the morning to hair that is flat and out of shape is not fun.

Today we are going to look at some of the different ways you can go to sleep with curls and have them maintained for the next day.

6 Different Ways You Can Sleep With Curls At Night

1. Sleep With Satin

Satin is great for nighttime. What makes satin so great is that it doesn’t soak up the moisture from your hair leaving your hair feeling dry. Satin helps you to retain moisture.

This is really important for curls because when your hair is dry, friction starts to happen and friction leads to rubbing of strands, split ends and eventually breakage.

If you sleep on a cotton pillowcase your curls will be rubbing together and the pillowcase will soak up the moisture that is in your hair.

Satin will not do this to your hair. Satin is made of natural fibres which will help to preserve the natural oils in your hair.

You can choose to sleep on a satin pillowcase like this one or use a satin bonnet. The choice is yours, either one is a great decision.

2. Pineapple Your Hair

When the term “pineappling” came out a lot of us were confused by what this actually meant.

When you pineapple your hair you put your head down and lift all your curls to the top of your head and keep them in place using a hair band. Your hair very much looks like a pineapple which is where the name comes from.

The idea behind pineappling is that you are able to maintain the curls at the front of your hair and only the ones at the back (underneath) will be disturbed.

The curls at the back of your hair will become stretched out overnight whilst the rest of your curls will be perfectly maintained.

Whats great about this is that when you take down your hair in the morning the back of your hair will be a little more elongated giving the appearance of layers and length.

You should find that the curls at the front of your hair are perfectly maintained in the morning.

3. Use Small Pineapples

Not everyone may have enough hair length to do the pineapple method.

A great solution to this is to do mini pineapples.

What this means is that instead of having 1 large pineapple at the top of your head you may have 3 or 4 instead.

It’s the same principle as having 1 full pineapple but if your hair is not long enough for it then having mini pineapples is a great alternative option.

4. Sleep With Braids

Braiding your hair at night is a method that I like to use myself quite a lot.

You can choose to have 4 or maybe 6 braids (or even twists) depending on the density of your hair.

Going to sleep with large braids in your hair will help to maintain your curls for the following day.

It’s very much the braid out method.

You may find that twists work better for your hair. Whichever one you decide to choose your curls will be there in the morning.

5. Messy Bun

The messy bun (lazy bun) method is very quick, easy and effective to do.

It requires little to no work and will make sure your curls are exactly where you want them to be in the morning.

The messy bun is somewhat similar to the pineapple method but instead of the ends of your hair left loose the ends would be tucked away in a bun.

6. Bantu Knots

Bantu knots is another really great way to sleep with curls. To do bantu knots simply put your hair into smaller sections and then twist each section into a knot and secure with a bobby pin.

When you take down your hair in the morning your curls will still be in place.

Why You Should Keep Your Curls Intact

Having curly hair looks amazing but the truth about it is that curls are very delicate and needed to cared for.

Having to redo your hair every day in order to restore your curls will only lead to breakage and split ends.

Curly hair grows best when it is left alone and not overly manipulated.

The longer you can keep your hair curly without having to do too much to it can only benefit you.
